Stenøien & Skåli is a new collaboration between two modern jazz musicians who have played together in several projects the last few years, and who has finally found their way to the format of the duo. With their music, Amund and Vetle explores the beautiful timbres of vibraphone and guitar together through a repertoire of their original compoisitions and arrangements of other tunes. The duos similar musical interests and improvisational language makes the groundwork for interplay that compliments eachothers personal expression. Without the safe space of having a drummer and bassist in the rhythm section, the music is put in a more airy and intimate setting where the duo gets to explore the music with alot of spontaneity.
Stenøien & Skåli plays a mixed repertoire of their original compositions and tunes by musicians like John Coltrane, Cedar Walton, Thelonious Monk and Kurt Rosenwinkel. They are currently taking their master’s degree in jazz and improvised music at the Norwegian Academy of Music in Oslo.
